Super setting for ice cream

Of course, you can eat ice cream right out of the container. But these decorative bowls ($29 for four) from Pottery Barn make the treat even more festive. Add spoons ($24 for four) and embroidered napkins ($34 for four), and you're ready for a cool indulgence.

Pie makers aim for class

Going to cooking school could be as easy as pie. The Culinary Institute of America is awarding 10 scholarships, from $25,000 to $2,500, to winners of its third annual All- American Apple Pie Recipe Contest. Entrants must submit a contest application along with their favorite pie recipe and an essay about apples by Aug. 15. Call 1-800-285-4627.

A chip tip

Pass the salsa with these better-for-you, homemade chips from Cooking Light magazine: Cut flour or corn tortillas into 8 wedges; place on a baking sheet. Coat wedges with cooking spray; bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
