WINE OF THE WEEK

June 07, 2000|By Michael Dresser

1999 Chateau de Segries Lirac, Henri de Lanzac ($10). This delicious, robustly fruity red wine from the south of France is a remarkable value - and an impressive mouthful. It's a medium- to full-bodied wine with intense flavors of black raspberry and herbs. Its texture is lush and soft, but there's no lack of acidity or definition. It's just a brilliant wine for the here and now - especially as a companion to grilled meat. Imagine a hypothetical cross between a fine Cotes-du-Rhone and a Georges Dubouef Morgon from Beaujolais. That's this brilliant Lirac from the fine importer Kysela Pere & Fils.
