Powder on ramp forces BWI building evacuation

June 04, 2000

A building at Baltimore-Washington International Airport that houses the U.S. Postal Service and Southwest Cargo was evacuated last night when a suspicious powder was discovered on a ramp.

Anne Arundel County Hazardous Materials crews responded to Building C at 11: 10 p.m. when a half-dozen employees complained of throat irritation, said Jennifer Cassidy, a BWI spokeswoman. Cassidy said the building was evacuated when the powder was discovered on part of a runway ramp and indoor conveyor belt.

No one was transported to the hospital, but Cassidy said the evacuation halted all postal flights.
