Celebration of food

Judy Kistner called Linwood Restaurant's feta-cheese-and-crab-meat salad "incredible." Tom Brady found Suburban Club's shrimp scampi "nice and spicy." And Dr. Joel Sereboff deemed Chef's Expressions' sea bass "outasight."

Everyone had favorites at Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland's eighth annual Culinary Extravaganza. Fifteen local chefs lined the walls of Harbor Court Hotel's ballroom, wooden spoons and saute pans in hand -- offering a treasure trove of gourmet dishes to 300 hungry guests.

This ardent group of foodies included: Liselotte Karaolis, event co-chair; Jan Guben, Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland board president; Alfred Himmelrich Jr., Ted Skinner, Greg Martin, Ken Philbrick and Ed Jules, board members; Robert J. Schap, Meals on Wheels executive director; Werner Kunz, Harbor Court Hotel managing director; Pam Malester, deputy director of U.S. Office for Civil Rights; Tom Quinn, LMC Properties Inc. president; Marty Wake, Mercantile Bank senior vice president; Chrissie Lewis, Vann's Spices marketing director; Eddie Applefeld, local media personality; Bobby Bricken, president of Barry Bricken; and Inez Carrington, hair stylist at Hair Is.

The scrumptious soiree raised about $95,000 to help Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland provide home-delivered meals to the homebound, frail and elderly in the Baltimore area.
