Expos update

Trying to overcome their allergic reaction to international venues, the Orioles begin the interleague segment of their schedule this weekend against a team they swept at Camden Yards last season, but that team humiliated them at Olympic Stadium in 1998. The Expos have emerged as one of the game's surprise teams this year because of an efficient offense and better-than-expected young pitching. The Orioles get a taste tomorrow when T.J. Tucker makes his major-league debut after being promoted last night. The Expos are especially dangerous at home (18-9). The Orioles have been inept in Canada, losing their only three games in Montreal and riding a 14-game losing streak in SkyDome. Right fielder Vladimir Guerrero is a contender for his league's first-half MVP as he entered last night second in hitting (.386), tied for eighth in home runs (15) and fifth in slugging percentage (.728). Second baseman Jose Vidro ranks third in hitting (.372) - including .426 at home - and is tied for seventh in runs scored (43).
