Festival of Arts

Enjoy an entertaining and educational tour of the arts this weekend at the seventh annual Frederick Festival of Arts. The two-day "Creekside Celebration of the Arts" features a showcase of visual, performing and literary arts. About 135 artists will show their work at the juried Arts Market, and continuous music, ranging from Celtic and folk to rock and jazz, will be presented on four stages. There also will be a children's interactive art center and plenty of food. And, if art shopping doesn't deplete you of all energy, rent a canoe or kayak and take a ride on Carroll Creek, adjacent to the festival site.

The festival is at Carroll Creek Linear Park, South Market Street, in the heart of Frederick's downtown historic district. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission $5, free 12 and under. Call 301-694-9632.

Vintage Virginia

Escape to the country Saturday and Sunday for the 19th annual Vintage Virginia Wine Festival. Spread out a blanket on rolling hills or sit in colorful tents and enjoy fine wine, gourmet food and live entertainment. More than 40 Virginia wineries will be pouring more than 300 wines, and area chefs will prepare their most popular dishes. You can also attend wine and food seminars and browse through arts and crafts displays.

The festival is at Great Meadow Field Events Center in The Plains, Va. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission includes unlimited wine tasting. Tickets are $16 in advance; $20 at the gate. For those under 21, tickets are $5. Call 800-277-CORK.
