Strawberry fest to be Saturday at carnival grounds

Messiah Lutheran Church will hold its annual strawberry festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Sykesville carnival grounds, Route 32 and Freedom Avenue.

Besides strawberry shortcake with ice cream, breakfast and lunch will be available. Crafts, flea market and yard sale vendors will offer a variety of items for sale.

Entertainment will include storyteller Candace Wolf at 9:30 a.m., the Thomas Sisters at 10 a.m., Elktones of the Elkridge Chorus at 10:30 a.m., Freedom Firestar Majorettes at 11 a.m., International Karate Academy of Eldersburg at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Carroll County Dance Studio at noon, Perna Gymnastics twisters and tumblers at 12:30 p.m., Talent Express at 1 p.m., and Northern Lights at 2 p.m.

Children's activities will include face painting, pony rides, hay wagon rides and games.

Vendor spaces are available for $25.

Sykesville church to hold health fair on Saturday

St. Luke Church will hold a fun, health and safety fair for children from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 350 River Road, Sykesville.

Games, prizes, contests, and health and safety tips will be featured.

Recreation council offers summer shape-up classes

Freedom Area Recreation Council has announced four-week summer shape-up classes at Carrolltown Center.

Classes include low-impact step aerobics, low-impact dance aerobics, senior moves (ultra-low-impact), interval (alternating segments of high-low aerobics), and de-stressand relax.

Cathy's Creative Kids Corner will offer special rates to class participants for child care. Information: 410-552-1405.
