The crime report is a sampling of crimes in Howard County compiled from police. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 410-313-3700.

East Columbia

Murray Hill Road: 7600 block, Kings Contrivance. Two masked individuals entered the High's store about 9:50 p.m. May 16 and confronted the clerk behind the counter. One of them produced a small revolver and demanded money. They took money and cigarettes. They were last seen running toward Vollmerhausen Road. No one was injured.

Oakland Mills Road: 7000 block, Oakland Mills. Someone entered the Pizza Boli on Thursday by smashing a door glass and stole a cash register.

West Columbia

Brook Way Drive: 5200 block, Wilde Lake. Someone entered a home May 16 while the residents were upstairs and stole a Sony PlayStation. Entry was through an unlocked sliding-glass door.

Ellicott City/Elkridge

West Springs Drive: 3100 block, Ellicott City. Someone entered a residence through an unlocked front door May 16. A Sony PlayStation and several Nintendo video games were stolen.

Baltimore National Pike (U.S. 40): 9100 block, Ellicott City. Someone entered Hair Affair through a rear door May 16 or 17. A bank bag containing money, credit card receipts and checks were stolen.

Santa Barbara Road: 6600 block, Elkridge. Someone entered DRS Inc. on May 17 by prying open the front and an inside door. Computers were stolen.

Washington Blvd.: 6300 block, Elkridge. Police officers responded Saturday to a burglary in progress and found the front glass to Sky Light Liquors smashed, but no one had entered the store. Using witnesses' accounts, a police officer spotted a truck on Montgomery Road. The driver of the truck saw the police vehicle and ran away from the truck near Morningside Drive. The truck was found to have been stolen from Glen Burnie in Anne Arundel County. After a search, an arrest was made.

Ilchester Point Court: 4900 block, Ellicott City. Sometime between May 13 and 21, a lawn mower and weed cutter were stolen from a garage.

North Laurel/Savage

Scaggsville Road: 10400 block, Scaggsville. Someone entered a residence through an unlocked rear door May 16 and stole money from a dresser.

Dove's Fly Way: 8800 block, Scaggsville. Someone stole two mountain bikes from a home. Entry was through a garage door that was left open.

Rosemont Drive: 4900 block, Scaggsville. On Monday, someone entered an unlocked car parked in a driveway, removed a garage door opener, entered the garage and a laundry room through an unlocked door.

U.S. 1: 9500 block, North Laurel. Plainclothes police officers in unmarked cars were flagged down May 17 by individuals apparently selling drugs. The officers followed the individuals to the area of the Laurel Park parking lot and purchased suspected crack cocaine from the individuals, who were then arrested.

Canterbury Riding: 9400 block, North Laurel. A 37-year-old Laurel woman was walking from a parking lot Monday when she was approached by a man who grabbed her purse, hit her in the face and ran toward All Saints Road. The woman sustained bruising and swelling to the eye and cheek area.

Barkwood Court: 8300 block, Jessup. Someone entered an apartment Saturday by climbing a fire escape to a window and then forced the window open. Food, a watch and a container of coins were stolen.


Springdale Drive: 13700 block. Someone entered a garage through an open door May 17 or 18, broke into a car and stole sunglasses and a stereo.
