Chesapeake cookbook

Annapolis resident Katie Moose has taken her love of cooking, sailing and the water, and compiled a cookbook close to her heart, "Chesapeake's Bounty" (Conduit Press). The book features recipes, menus, local history and more. Savor such fare as a Summer Night Repast of Steamed Crabs, Corn on the Cob and Coleslaw or a Summer Garden Party of Lili's Chicken Liver Pate and Cucumber Sandwiches. The $16.95 book is available at area bookstores or by mail (plus $3.20 postage) at Conduit Press, 111 Conduit St., Annapolis, Md. 21401.

A devilish problem

Get a grip on deviled eggs this season with a helpful tip from Cook's Illustrated magazine. Before trying to transport the slippery devils, cut a piece of rubberized shelf or drawer liner to the size of the dish you'll use for the eggs, preferably one with high sides. After placing the liner in the dish, fill it with enough eggs to cover a single layer. The liner will keep the eggs from sliding.

Spicy burgers

Give your burgers a flavor boost this Memorial Day weekend with Old Bay seasoning. Mix 2 teaspoons of the spicy blend into 1 pound of ground beef. Shape into patties and grill to desired doneness.
