Calvin Klein may have a way with slick fashion. But he has a more domestic side too, and his new spring bed and bath line reflects that.

The Down and Feather Collection includes sumptuously soft pillows, comforters and mattress pads with the famous label. The Khaki Collection has an even wider selection of sheets, shams and duvet covers in playful plaids, indigos and more.

Prices range from $17.50 for a bath towel to $500 for a queen down comforter. Call 1-800-294-7978 for store locations.

The Southern way of decorating

In "Southern Style" (Bulfinch, $45), author Mark Mayfield offers these suggestions for decorating with a Southern flair:

* If you have a large entry, furnish it like a room and enjoy it.

* Southerners are especially fond of large round tables as focal points for a room and to showcase vases of flowers, books and photographs.

* Graciousness is key to Southern style. Most rooms, even in less imposing homes, tend to be more formal and restrained.

* Of all the rooms in the house, the bedroom is the most dramatic. Self-indulgence holds sway here, with lavish bed hangings and other accouterments.

* Tea tables, game tables and other small tables signal hospitality.

A clean sweep

Wet weather can make May a tough month on rugs and carpets. Paula Erickson, consumer affairs manager of Ace Hardware Corp., suggests you vacuum regularly, particularly in high traffic areas such as hallways and stairs. Her recommendation? At least twice a week.

Spot treat stains before they soak in. Blot liquids with a dry, white absorbent cloth or paper towel and gently scrape up solids before tackling the stain.

Finally, go easy on the soap and chemicals. Too much will leave a residue.
