Network send-off to Michael J. Fox

Critic's choice: Television

May 21, 2000|By Chris Kaltenbach

ABC gives one of its few non-Regis meal tickets the big send-off Wednesday night at 9, as Michael J. Fox waves good-bye to his stint as the star of "Spin City." In the hourlong season finale, Deputy Mayor Michael Flaherty (Fox) ends up taking the fall when a mobster's connections to City Hall hit the media. The show makes for a decent enough good-bye, although at an hour, it's way too long -- most of the second half just gives the cast members the chance to sit around and look misty eyed. Still, Fox's presence as a TV regular will be missed, and Wednesday's show suggests plenty of reasons. Watch it, if only so you can compare Fox with his replacement, Charlie Sheen, when he starts next season.
