Long & Foster is fourth largest in nation for 1999

Long & Foster Real Estate Inc. was named the fourth-largest brokerage in the nation for 1999, according to the May issue of Real Trends, an industry trade newsletter.

Real Trends annually ranks the nation's 500 largest real estate brokerages based on transactions and sales volume. Long & Foster, which placed third in 1998, had 64,189 transactions and $11.8 million in sales volume.

NRT Inc., based in Parsippany, N.J., and the parent company of O'Conor, Piper & Flynn ERA, topped the list, as it did in 1998, with 362,368 transactions and $94.4 million in sales volume.

Towson-based Coldwell Banker Grempler Realty Inc. improved its standing, placing No. 74 in transactions and 93rd in sales volume, up from Nos. 82 and 108 in 1998.

Century 21 H.T. Brown Real Estate Inc. in Laurel finished No. 255 and No. 279 on the list, down from Nos. 229 and 296 in 1998.

RE/Max Advantage Realty in Columbia came in at No. 283 in both categories, listings and volume. In 1998, the company was No. 303 in transactions and No. 228 in sales volume.
