C. Milton Wright's girls controlled the distance races as expected, but it wasn't enough to beat Westminster in the Class 4A East Region meet at North County High yesterday.

Cara Wettlaufer captured the 800 and 1,600 meters, and Kacie Remeto was second in the half-mile and won the 2-mile, but Westminster had too much strength in the field events and prevailed, 143-124.

Arundel and Old Mill followed with 78 and 71, respectively, and Anne Arundel County champion Broadneck finished fifth with 59 points.

In the boys meet, Westminster prevailed, defeating North County, 123-109.5. Severna Park was third with 93 points.

Pole vaulter Andy Kuchera cleared 12 feet to help boost the Owls.
