Chuck Bruggeman, a John Carroll senior, slipped to a 5-over-par 77, but it was enough to win the annual MIAA individual golf championship yesterday at Woodholme Country Club.

Second-round leader Bruggeman finished with a 54-hole total of 221, five shots better than Ben Phelps of St. Paul's (80-226) and seven ahead of Chris Baloga of Calvert Hall, whose closing 74 (228) was the best score among the 20 final-round contestants.

St. Paul's edged John Carroll for the team title, 594-599.

The two will meet again tomorrow in the semifinals of the dual-meet championship. The other pairing will be Loyola vs. Calvert Hall.

The title match will be Friday at Beechtree Golf Course in Aberdeen.
