Western Maryland has named Loyola College assistant coach Darrell Brooks as its head men's basketball coach.

Brooks, 45, has spent 16 years as an assistant at six different schools, the past three seasons at Loyola.

Brooks, who played point guard at Bowie State (1975-79), replaces Nick Zoulias who spent 11 seasons at Western Maryland compiling a 84-180 record.

"I'm really anxious to get started," Brooks said. "I see what Western Maryland has done in football, and I think the basketball team can have the same kind of success."
