The junior right-hander defeated No. 12 Old Mill, 1-0, on Tuesday with a six-hitter to tie the state public school record for most shutouts in a season with four. He picked up his county-leading eighth win against one loss Saturday for the No. 3 Wildcats in a 15-10 decision over Northeast, giving up one earned run in four innings of relief to lower his metro-area-leading earned-run average to 0.35. On Thursday, Ziegler hit two home runs in an 11-6 loss at No. 2 Severna Park to tie for the Anne Arundel County lead (six), and by the end of the week his 24 RBIs led the county.

Jessica Saunders

Spalding, softball

The sophomore right-hander guided the No.1 Cavaliers (20-0) to a win at the Chambersburg (Pa.) Tournament on Saturday to close out a strong week. She earned a win and a save in the first two games, pitching 7 1/3 innings. In the title game against Chambersburg, she tossed a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts in a 3-0 win. Saunders went 5-for-7 at the plate with five RBIs and two runs in the tournament. Earlier in the week, Saunders (12-0) pitched the Cavs to a 4-1 win over IND, striking out 11 and allowing three hits.
