State marshal suspects arson in 3 fires at truck stop motel

Sprinkler stops one

2 apparently burn out

Howard County firefighters responded to a fire yesterday morning in a Jessup truck stop motel and found evidence of two others -- all apparently the work of an arsonist.

Firefighters were dispatched about 9 a.m. to the motel at the TA Baltimore South truck plaza in the 7400 block of Assateague Road and discovered that a sprinkler system had extinguished a fire in the trash room on the third floor.

They also found that two fires in the ceiling of the fifth floor had burned themselves out.

Damage was estimated at $3,000, mostly from water.

The state fire marshal's office ruled it arson and asked anyone with information to call investigators at 410-875-5450.
