Volunteers Needed

Area schools and literacy programs seek volunteers to help children and adults to improve reading skills and to assist in related projects. Among them are:

The Gregory Foundation, 600 Reisterstown Road, Suite 306, Pikesville, a private, nonprofit human services agency that works with special needs children in foster care. Needed are reading tutors for children ages 5 to 15 from 5: 30 p.m. and 8: 30 p.m. weekdays at foster homes or the foundation office. Tutors also are needed for math. Belmont Elementary School, 1406 N. Ellamont St., to serve as reading tutors for children in grades one to five, between 8: 15 a.m. and 1 p.m. weekdays. Volunteers can contribute as little as 30 minutes. Contact: Principal Sheila Kolman, 410-396-0579.

Vision Christian Academy, 818 N. Franklintown Road, needs volunteer reading, language and math tutors for kindergarten through eighth grades, Monday through Thursday. Contact: Dietre Epps or Roshanne Redmond, 410-362-1406.
