'Dragons in the Clouds'

Learn the principles of kite design, construction and decoration Saturday at Towson University's Asian Arts and Culture Center. Kites will be created around motifs from the "Dance of the Dragon" exhibition, honoring the most prestigious animal of the Chinese Zodiac. The family workshop will include a demonstration followed by kite-making and a small competition.

The "Dragons in the Clouds" workshop takes place 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at Towson University's Center for the Arts, Room 225, 8000 York Road. $5 materials fee; pre-registration is required. Call 410-830-2807.

'Filming Maryland'

Hollywood meets Charm City in the Maryland Historical Society's latest exhibit, "Filming Maryland." As a part of First Thursday at the MHS, "Adventure in Baltimore," starring Shirley Temple, will be shown tonight. The U.S. Army Band will also perform "Pershing's Own" at the beginning of the evening. The exhibition will be open to tours all night, and free refreshments will be served. Opening also at the Maryland Historical Society today is an exhibit of the Burns Family Dollhouse. The dollhouse belonged to Isabelle Burns Berry and her daughter Isabelle Berry Hill, and contains miniaturized versions of period furniture from 1820 to 1900.

First Thursday at the MHS takes place 5 p.m.-8 p.m. today at the Maryland Historical Society, 201 W. Monument St. Free. The Burns Family Dollhouse is on display today through Sept. 3. Regular museum hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays to Fridays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $4; $3 seniors, students and children 13-17; members and children 12 and under are free. Call 410-685-3750.
