Former Sun executive joins Tribune Interactive

Schneider appointed general manager of national Web network

Hilary A. Schneider, head of the Internet division of Times Mirror Co., The Sun's parent company, has been appointed senior vice president/general manager of Tribune Interactive, the Internet arm of Chicago-based Tribune Co., which is acquiring Times Mirror.

Schneider, 39, former general manager of The Baltimore Sun Co., has been president and chief executive officer of Times Mirror Interactive since November, when the unit was created to manage Times Mirror's Internet business. Schneider joined Times Mirror in 1990 and has served in several executive roles at the Baltimore Sun, including director of new business development, vice president of new business development and vice president of sales.

David D. Hiller, Tribune's senior vice president/development, will become president of Tribune Interactive, John W. Madigan, Tribune's chairman, president and chief executive officer, said yesterday. He also announced the appointment of Andrew J. Oleszczuk, Tribune Ventures president, as senior vice president/development of Tribune Co.

Tribune Interactive, formed a year ago, manages 45 local and national Web sites. They include Tribune newspaper sites as well as products such as Go2orlando.com, a tourism site; Blackvoices.com, an African-American community site and Chicagosports.com. a site dedicated to Chicago sports teams with news content from the Chicago Tribune and its radio and television stations.

Times Mirror Interactive will merge with Tribune Interactive as part of Tribune's $8 billion purchase of Times Mirror, which is expected to become final next month.
