Blue Jays: Optioned P John Bale to Triple-A Syracuse. Purchased contract of P Eric Gunderson from Syracuse. Transferred P JoeyHamilton to 60-day DL.

Cardinals: Placed P Dave Wainhouse on 15-day disabled list with right shoulder discomfort. Recalled P Justin Burnette from Triple-A Memphis.

Indians: Activated P David Riske from 15-day DL and optioned him to Triple-A Buffalo.

Mariners: Activated IF Carlos Guillen. Sent IF Carlos Hernandez to Triple-A Tacoma. Signed C Blake Barthol and assigned him to Double-A New Haven.

Padres: Placed P Brian Boehringer on 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 21. Recalled P Rodrigo Lopez from Las Vegas of the PCL.

Pirates: Optioned 3B Aramis Ramirez to Triple-A Nashville. Recalled P Jeff Wallace from Nashville.

Reds: Purchased contract of IF Juan Castro from Triple-A Louisville.

Rockies: Placed P Jerry Dipoto on 15-day DL, retroactive to April 26, with bulging disc in neck. Activated P Mike DeJean.

Basketball

NBA: Suspended Pacers C Rik Smits for one game for a flagrant elbow against Bucks C Ervin Johnson in their playoff game on April 27.

Washington (USBL): Released G Greg Jonesand F-C Michael Pawelczak. Signed G JeremiahJohnson, Chatney Howard and center Jermall Morgan.

ACC: Named Maryland's Delila Causevic and Jessica Johnson to all-ACC women's tennis team.

Capital Athletic Conference baseball: Named St. Mary's C Jerry Grable and Salisbury State 1B Brian Loy, 3B Tim Hilyard, M B.J. Barrett, OF Jason Ewing, DH Dane Schriver and P Kevin Coulbourn to all-conference baseball first team.
