Talent on display at Mount Airy Elementary show

MOUNT AIRY Elementary School held its annual talent show on April 13. Songs, dances, skits and poetry and several comedy acts performed by school staff members were featured.

Dance performances were given by Brittany Bullock, Stephanie Hettchen, Becky Abel, Christine Shumar, Katie VanSant, Jennifer Fogle, Sarah Culler, Jennifer Skroupa, Brittany Burdette, Michelle Parks, Katia Racine, Jamey Nyberg, Erin Popa, Arianna Franca, Jackie Hood, Melissa Neagle, Damian Bosiacki, Shane Connors, Adam Culler, Kyle Purkey, Danielle Clark, Elisabeth Salmon, Paige Guay, Stepanie Clark, Jessica Sowder, Vassiliki Ellwood, Katerina Chaconas and Maria Chaconas.

Musical acts included a flute solo by Alexander Ellwood; a song by Nellie Glover; an electric guitar performance by Scott Bartley and Joey Deutsch.

There were also piano solos by Cherise Centi and Nicole Centi; and a instrumental brass piece played by Stephen Semelsberger, Steve Trester and Eric Schmitz.

Poetry readings were presented by Janaye Graham, Ashley Winslow and Wendye Delph; a lion and tiger skit by Shelley Hierstetter, Lisa Waters and Missy D'Amato; and a gymnastics demonstration by Nikki Rieland and Jessica Gregory.

A song from "The Sound of Music" featured Madison Maynes, Samantha Lewandoski, Christina Michie, Ali Noel, Jessica Condon, Hannah Ehlman, Sheridan Renshaw, and Stephanie Jansen dressed as Maria and the von Trapp children.

Dressed as the characters from "The Wizard of Oz," Johanna Noel, Katie Semelsberger, Lorrin Barton, Jenny Czestyicki and Sarah Semelsberger sang a piece from that show.

Several adults joined in, with a juggling act by Assistant Principal Byron Moore and a magic act by art instructor Pat Aaron, kindergarten teacher Kim Hierstetter and fifth-grader Allison Borrelli.

Jaycees yard sale

Mount Airy Jaycees will again hold one of Maryland's largest yard sales from 5: 30 a.m. until 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Firemen's Activities Grounds at Twin Arch Road and Route 27 in Mount Airy.

The annual Spring Yard Sale is the Jaycees' primary fund-raiser for projects such as Thanksgiving food baskets and a children's Christmas party for needy families.

Yard sale buyers can expect to find everything from children's clothes and toys to antique furniture and tools. The Jaycees will serve breakfast and lunch at the food booth on the grounds. Admission is free.

VFW breakfast

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Mount Airy Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10076 will hold a breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. tomorrow. The menu includes eggs, sausage or bacon, toast or sweet roll, orange juice and coffee.

Cost is $4 for adults and $2 for children under age 12. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance. VFW Post 10076 is at 107 S. Main St. Information: 301-829-1682.

Kids Stuff sale

Mount Airy Elementary PTA will hold its annual Kids Stuff Yard Sale from 7 a.m. to noon tomorrow in the ball field next to Mount Airy Elementary School.

The sale will feature children's clothes, toys and accessories.
