Church Street construction to begin this week

April 23, 2000

Construction of new sidewalks, road resurfacing and landscaping along Church Street in Brooklyn Park will begin this week as part of a $1.3 million improvements project. The work will extend from Ritchie Highway to the city line.

In announcing the start of the project, state Sen. Philip C. Jimeno and Del. Joan M. Cadden, both District 31 Democrats, said the work is part of the state's Smart Growth initiative, which allocates funding to older, established communities for revitalization.

The Church Street improvements, as well as the Brooklyn Park Middle School, Chesapeake Center for the Creative Arts and other public and private projects, will contribute to the overall enhancement of the Brooklyn Park community, they said.

Land-use plan on display for BWI-Linthicum area

A reference copy of the draft land-use plan for the BWI-Linthicum area has been placed at the Linthicum library by the Department of Planning and Code Enforcement, in advance of a public forum scheduled next month.

The draft Small Area Plan contains recommendations to guide lawmakers in adopting land-use rules and planning for construction of schools, roads, parks and other amenities, and to guide property owners in making decisions about the use of their land, a department spokesman said.

The forum will be held May 11 at North County High School. It will feature discussion of key recommendations, with the public invited to arrive anytime between 4: 30 p.m. and 9 p.m.
