Athletics update

The A's entered last night's loss to the Indians on a four-game winning streak. They broke out Wednesday night with a 10-5 win after stumbling to a .227 average the previous eight games. The A's are 1-7 when scored upon first. Oakland's two wins over the Indians reversed a 2-10 1999. Jason Isringhausen was acquired as closer and has converted his first three save situations. Third baseman Eric Chavez, who flopped last season as a Rookie of the Year candidate, is enjoying a strong start. His home run off Chuck Finley on Monday was his first against a left-hander. The Brothers Giambi, Jason and Jeremy, are driving what has passed for the A's offense. Jason leads the American League with seven home runs and is tied with Orioles shortstop Mike Bordick for the RBI lead with 20. His .870 slugging percentage also tops the league.
