Chester Northington, 76; Kathleen Northington, 82

Chester Northington, a retired letter carrier, and his wife, Kathleen, an active churchwoman, died Tuesday at Genesis Eldercare in Hamilton.

Mr. Northington, who died of cancer, was 76.

Mrs. Northington, who died of a heart attack, was 82.

The couple, who married in 1956, were longtime residents of Morgan Park.

Mr. Northington was born in East Baltimore and graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. During World War II, he served with the Marines in the Pacific.

He was a letter carrier in Cross Keys for more than 30 years and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in the 1970s.

He had been a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and treasurer of Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Baltimore. He later was a deacon at Sharon Baptist Church.

Kathleen Robinson was born in North Carolina and attended public schools.

Before becoming a homemaker, she worked in a Baltimore candy factory.

She had been a deaconess and member of the usher board at Grace Memorial Baptist and was a deaconess at Sharon Baptist, 1373 N. Stricker St., where services for the couple will be held at 7 p.m. Monday.

Mr. Northington is survived by a brother, Leon Northington of Baltimore.

Mrs. Northington is survived by a cousin, Cola Robinson of Baltimore; and many nieces and nephews.
