Hopkins women rip Villanova, 17-2

Erin Wellner and Jamie Larrimore combined efforts for 11 goals to power host Johns Hopkins over Villanova, 17-2, in women's college lacrosse action yesterday, snapping a two-game losing streak.

Wellner had six goals and Larrimore added five.

The loss was Villanova's seventh straight.

Johns Hopkins (9-4) scored on seven of its first nine shots en route to an 11-1 halftime advantage.

By a 40-14 margin, Johns Hopkins outshot Villanova, which fell to 3-12.

Gettysburg 15, Western Maryland 9: Amy Stambaugh (Towson) had a career-high eight goals and one assist as the host Bullets (13-2, 7-0) downed the Green Terror (6-8, 3-5) in Centennial Conference action.

Meghan Giorno led Western Maryland with four goals and Erin Mulhern added three.

American 11, UMBC 8: Junior Ashley Flanigan had three goals and two assists to power the host Eagles (3-11) past the Retrievers (7-5).

UMBC's Ashley Staines led all scorers with four goals.


Notre Dame 17, Villanova 9: Junior attack Jon Harvey scored a career-high six goals, tying a school record for goals at home, to lead the No. 11 Fighting Irish to their fourth straight win.

David Ulrich of Baltimore and Tom Glatzel of Ellicott City each added three goals to Notre Dame's cause.
