Man beaten with bat dies

warrant issued for suspect in custody

A man who was beaten with a baseball bat during an argument Saturday in Southwest Baltimore died about 2 p.m. yesterday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said.

Troy Mellison, 19, of the 4400 block of Old Frederick Road was struck several times with a wooden bat during an argument with a friend about electronics outside a house in the 3700 block of Gelston Drive in Rognell Heights, said Detective Donny Bradshaw.

Nathaniel McKnight, 18, of the 600 block of Wildwood Parkway was charged in a warrant with first-degree murder in the incident, Bradshaw said. McKnight, arrested Sunday in Washington after he was stopped on a traffic violation, was expected to be extradited tomorrow to Baltimore.
