Bank begins construction on seventh Arundel branch

Branch Banking & Trust Co. broke ground on a full-service bank in Annapolis last week, which will bring the number of branches in the county to seven once construction is completed in late summer.

North Carolina-based BB&T has 51 branches in Maryland, not including the bank being built at 2078 General's Highway.

"Our bank has been in Anne Arundel County for a while," said Hunter F. Calloway, a BB&T senior vice president and corporate banker. "This just an expansion of our activities."

BB&T acquired several branches in the state when it bought out Bank of Maryland's owner, Mason-Dixon Bancshares Inc., in July. Bank of Maryland continued operating under its old name until last month.
