Cornell topples No. 1 Syracuse, 13-12

Freshman attack Michael Egan scored two goals in the final six minutes yesterday to lead No. 9 Cornell (7-1) to a 13-12 win over No. 1 Syracuse (7-1) in Ithaca, N.Y.

Sean Steinwald had three goals and Andrew Schardt and J. P. Schalk each added two goals for Cornell. Michael Springer had four goals and Ryan Powell had three for Syracuse.

Goucher 9, Mary Washington 4: Qadir Stern had four goals to help the visiting Gophers (5-7) edge the Eagles (3-8).

St. Mary's 18, Catholic 0: Todd Sody (Boys' Latin) and Steve Vallandingham (St. Mary's) led the Seahawks (9-3) with three goals each to beat the Cardinals.

Women

Maryland 18, Brown 7: Jen Adams led the Terps (10-1) with five goals and four assists in a rout of the Bears (4-5).

Loyola 18, Towson 5: Senior midfielder Kory Miller had three goals and four assists as the Greyhounds (9-2) beat the Tigers (3-6).

Washington College 10, St. Mary's 8: Senior Maggy Kilroy and freshman Kristen Bozzella scored three goals each to help the Shorewomen (7-1) top the Seahawks (6-7).

Haverford 9, Goucher 8: Lauren Manekin's four goals weren't enough as the Gophers fell.
