North Dakota's Goren has his day in NCAA title victory

When North Dakota won the 1997 NCAA hockey championship, Lee Goren was ineligible because he had played for a junior team in Canada.

This season, he led the nation by scoring 34 goals along with 29 assists. Saturday night, he scored an empty-netter that clinched the title with 45.2 seconds left in a 4-2 victory over Boston College in Providence, R.I.

"He's a true scorer," Sioux goalie Karl Goehring said. "I think he'll do great in the NHL."

North Dakota trailed 2-1 after two periods but scored three times in the third -- and Goren had a hand in all of them. He tied it 2: 43 into the third when he took a drop pass from Ryan Bayda and put it through the legs of a defenseman and the screened goalie.
