Fischer's hat trick lifts Mount women past Sacred Heart

Frostburg falls in OT to East Stroudsburg

Beth Fischer scored three goals to lift visiting Mount St. Mary's over Sacred Heart, 8-5, in Northeast Conference women's college lacrosse yesterday.

The Pioneers (6-3) tied the score at 2 at 2: 12, but the Mountaineers (6-5) scored the final three goals of the half to take a 5-2 lead.

Lara Steinbraker opened the second half by scoring her second goal to push the Mount lead to four with 16: 36 remaining. Fischer got two of her three goals down the stretch.

East Stroudsburg 6, Frostburg 5, OT: Kim Niles scored with 3: 31 remaining in overtime to lift the Warriors (6-2) over the host Bobcats (6-3).

Niles finished with three goals.

Men

No. 6 Duke 17, Army 6: Nick Hartofolis and Greg Patchak each scored three goals to pace the Blue Devils (8-2) over the host Cadets (5-4).

The game was the first between the two schools since 1959.
