Second helping for Second Step

MARYLAND SCENE

The Hyatt Regency ballroom was jammed at "Steppin' Out into the Sun: Celebration 2000" for several reasons. More than 1,200 folks came to honor Sandra Unitas and her husband, former Baltimore Colt John Unitas; raise money for Second Step Inc., which helps victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence; and sample offerings from 42 local restaurants.

"We've got everything from Esskay hot dogs to lobster and mushroom burritos," said event committee member Lee Draminski.

"We're psyched," event chair Claudia Grimm said. "It's a sellout."

But the bottom line was $200,000 grossed by the organization to provide services to its clients.

Among those who helped Second Step while helping themselves at the scrumptious buffet: Bonnie Ariano, Second Step executive director; Sue Guben, Second Step board president; Cindi Mather, Dr. Arlene E. Bearman and Kathy Matarazzo Speca, board members; Sue Layton, Heidi Slacum, Annette Paterakis, Mitchell Baker and Kitsa Padousis, event committee members; Nathan A. Chapman Jr., president of the Chapman Co.; Arthur Hawkins, WBAL Radio general sales manager; and Ted Marchibroda, radio analyst for Indianapolis Colts.
