Hot corner

Quote: "Everybody knows that [hitting] is not my strength. Throwing the ball into the bullpen is one of my strengths." -- Dennis Hocking of the Twins, commenting on his three doubles, then his costly throwing error in the ninth inning of a 7-6 loss to the Devil Rays yesterday

It's a fact: When Royals shortstop Luis Ordaz reached the majors last season, he became the 100th Venezuelan to play in the big leagues. Ordaz was claimed off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Who's hot: Darin Erstad of the Angels went 4-for-5 with a homer, two doubles and five RBIs in a 12-6 victory over the Yankees on Wednesday night.

Who's not: After playing before an Oakland-record 53,498 fans on Monday's Opening Day, the A's and Tigers drew 10,188 and 10,229 for the final two games of their series.

On deck: Cleveland sends right-hander Jaret Wright to the mound tonight to face Tampa Bay. Wright was 8-10 with a 6.06 ERA last season.
