Tigers update

A season-opening win over the Oakland Athletics has been followed by two straight losses. The problems start at the top and filter down. Leadoff hitter Luis Polonia is batting .091. No. 3 hitter Bobby Higginson, whom the Tigers wanted to trade during the winter, is batting .167. Damion Easley still is looking for his first hit. And new manager Phil Garner still is looking for slugger Juan Gonzalez, acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Texas Rangers. Gonzalez didn't play in the last two games of the Oakland series because of a strained right hamstring and his status remains uncertain. The schedule makers didn't do the Tigers any favors, either, by making them travel from Florida to the West Coast to Baltimore. Nomo, whose career seemed in jeopardy last season, has emerged as the Tigers' No. 1 starter.
