Duke holds off UMBC for 13-11 victory

No. 7 Navy routs Air Force

Jared Frood scored five goals and No. 8 Duke survived a late rally by No. 15 UMBC to hold on for a 13-11 win yesterday in a men's lacrosse game in Durham, N.C.

T. J. Durnan scored two of his four goals in the third quarter as the Blue Devils (6-2) broke away from a 6-6 halftime tie.

Jeff Ratcliffe scored twice for the Retrievers (2-4) in the fourth quarter, but Frood added two goals as well, the game-winner and an insurance goal.

No. 7 Navy 17, Air Force 2: A trio of Mids scored two goals each -- Eddie McKinnon, Brendan Power and Bryan Wolfe -- to power No. 7 Navy (6-1) past the visiting Falcons (0-7).


Georgetown 15, Towson 4: Junior attack Sheehan Stanwick (Notre Dame Prep) recorded a hat trick and added two assists to power the visiting Hoyas (5-2) past the Tigers (2-5).

Old Dominion 13, UMBC 12: Jennifer Heister scored four goals to lead the Lady Monarchs (4-5) past the visiting Retrievers (2-4).

Johns Hopkins 14, Brown 12: Erinn Dennis scored five goals to help the host Blue Jays (6-2) to their sixth straight victory.

Mount St. Mary's 25, Howard 5: Erica Hensley had a school record-tying five assists and three goals to lift the host Mount (3-3).
