The top-ranked Mount Hebron girls lacrosse team had its season opener postponed yesterday against No. 6 Roland Park because only one official showed up at the Ellicott City school.

Both coaches -- Mount Hebron's Chris Robinson and Roland Park's Tara Kramer -- as well as official Shirley Cohee, agreed not to play the game with only one referee. The second official, Sandy Inglis, never arrived because she didn't know she had been assigned to the game.

"There was a miscommunication between her and myself about the dates on her schedule," said Oralee Smith, commissioner of the Howard/Carroll officials association. "She didn't know she had the game, and on my schedule she was down for the game. I certainly take the blame for that."

Both schools are available to play Monday, April 3, and Smith said officials would be available that date. Mount Hebron athletic director Mark Cates and Roland Park athletic director Lois Miller plan to talk Monday about rescheduling the game.
