Senior attack Justin Mullen's second goal of the game in the second overtime gave No. 3 St. Mary's a thrilling 9-8 decision over No. 5 Loyola at Weems Whelan Field in Annapolis yesterday.

In what was the first game of the season for both Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference contenders, the host Saints staged a furious rally in the final minute to score two goals and force overtime.

Dave Price scored the Saints' second extra-man goal with 56 seconds left to make it 8-7 and Mullen fed junior attack Matt White, who bounced his third goal into the net with five seconds leftfor an 8-8 tie.

Outstanding performances by both goalies, senior Tillman Johnson (14 saves) of St. Mary's and Loyola junior Trey Rodgers (21 saves), who was making his first varsity start under fire, prevented either team from pulling away.
