Road-weary BayRunners fall to Stuff

Baltimore folds in fourth, ends trip with 92-85 loss

CINCINNATI -- The road continues to be hard, literally, for the BayRunners. In the final game of an 18-day road trip, Baltimore lost a six-point, fourth-quarter lead and its 18th road game in 20 tries, 92-85, to the Cincinnati Stuff last night before 1,388 at the Firstar Center.

The loss drops the BayRunners to 13-30 overall, 18 games behind the IBL's Eastern Division-leading Stuff (32-13). The teams hadn't met in more than a month, but that lack of familiarity couldn't keep the Stuff from beating Baltimore for the fifth time in six games. Cincinnati cemented the game by outscoring the BayRunners 19-7 over the final 6: 35.

"We gave Lenny Brown and Wayne Turner too many open looks at the end," said Baltimore head coach Terry Truax. "We didn't step up and switch out to defend their shots. Even with that, we're down two, 82-80, and had the ball out of bounds with all of our timeouts. You have to be able to execute in the last three minutes of the game."

On that inbounds play, center Mark Blount curled to the basket for an alley-oop pass, but the ball was intercepted by Cincinnati's Tremaine Fowlkes.

"I think we played better team basketball tonight but we still came up short," said guard Shawnta Rogers.

The BayRunners fell behind quickly, trailing by as many as 10 points in the first quarter. A 10-0 run, behind three-pointers by Monty Wilson and Kurk Lee tied the game for the BayRunners. Cincinnati led 45-44 at the half.

Wilson gave the BayRunners the lead to start the second half, a lead they held and expanded to as much as 70-64 at the start of the fourth quarter.

Forward Lonnie Harrell led the BayRunners with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Wilson and Steve Goodrich each added 14 points.
