Dot-com variation on a wake-up call

March 19, 2000|By Newsday

You know those phone calls. Do you need a new credit card? Are you familiar with AT&T? The calls always come during dinner and tend to irritate even the calmest homeowner. But here's a call with a difference: How about a reminder to take a pill, or a casual phone nudge to do those push-ups?

iPing -- www.iPing.com -- is a free Internet-to-telephone notification service. Dr. Dose is its new main feature. Joining the free service will trigger a daily (or many times a day) phone call to remind you (or your elderly loved one) to take that next dose of medicine. The company also has another feature, eFit.com, which can be programmed to call you with the latest health and fitness news.
