EMMITSBURG -- Doug Thompson had three goals and 10 Mountaineers scored in a 14-3 Mount St. Mary's victory over Canisius in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's lacrosse game yesterday.

Tim Spaulding scored all three Golden Griffins' goals.

It was the Mountaineers' first win of the season. Canisius (0-4, 0-2 MAAC) scored the first goal of the game, but a goal by Thompson knotted the score with 10 minutes left in the first period.

A goal by Brian Cox off a feed by Nick DeFelice gave the Mount a 2-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, both teams continued to deny each other on attack until Thompson netted his second goal of the game with 10: 46 left in the period. That started a 7-0 run that gave the Mount a 9-1 lead at the half.

The Mount continued to dominate the game on both ends of the field in the second half, giving up just two Canisius goals in the third period and none in the fourth.
