Arts, science groups invited to apply for project grants

TOWSON -- The Baltimore County Commission on Arts and Sciences is offering project grants to regional arts and sciences organizations.

Recipients of the grants, which are not more than $5,000, may include galleries, theater groups and historical societies.

Support group forming for widows, widowers

TOWSON -- St. Joseph Medical Center is sponsoring a six-week support group series for widows and widowers beginning Tuesday.

The program is open to women and men age 50 and older who lost a spouse more than three months ago. Topics to be discussed include adjusting to bereavement, coping with family and friends, legal issues and facing the future.

The program will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoons in the Irwin Center at St. Joseph Medical Center. Cost is $30 per person. Information: 410-337-1479.

Southwest Academy teacher receives $500 scholarship

WOODLAWN -- Sherry Merrifield, a dance teacher at Southwest Academy, will receive a $500 Target Teacher Scholarship, which can be used to defray the cost of tuition, books, supplies or other education-related expenses.

Merrifield is among 1,900 teachers nationwide to receive the honor from Target, a retail chain store.

A graduate student at Loyola College, Merrifield will use the scholarship to help pay tuition.

Dinner, auction to raise funds for Institute of Notre Dame

"Maryland's Hidden Treasure "Maryland's Hidden Treasure -- IND" is the theme of a fund-raising dinner and auction to benefit the Institute of Notre Dame, a Catholic girls high school in East Baltimore.

The event will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight March 25 at the Holiday Inn Select, 2004 Greenspring Drive, Timonium. A silent auction and a live auction conducted by auctioneer Jonathan Melnick are scheduled.

Mercy High School club to stage `Radio T.B.S.' play

The Mercy High School drama club will present a production of "Radio T.B.S. [Trailer Park Broadcasting Scandals]" at 7: 30 p.m. on March 30 and 31 and April 1 in the gymnasium of the school, 1300 E. Northern Parkway.
