A man was killed and three other people were injured yesterday when a pickup truck crashed into the back of a car on Interstate 795 in Owings Mills, state police said.

Tfc. Richard S. Hill of the Golden Ring Barracks said Paris Michelle Johns, 17, of the 6400 block of Laurel Drive in Lochearn was driving her father's 1988 Ford Escort north on I-795 near Mount Wilson Lane about 1: 25 p.m. when the engine stalled.

Hill said when Johns turned on her emergency flashers and tried to restart the car, it was struck from behind by a 1991 Ford pickup driven by Harry S. Cohen, 40, of the 12500 block of Ivy Mill Road in Reisterstown.

Derrick Darrell Jones, 19, of the 6900 block of Brompton Road, Woodmoor, was seated behind Johns, Hill said. He received the full impact of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene, Hill said.

Paris Johns suffered neck injuries and her sister, Angela, 9, suffered two broken legs and internal injuries. Both were in critical condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Hill said.

Their 14-year-old brother, Delbert James Johns 3rd, 14, suffered a shoulder injury and was treated at Northwest Hospital Center, Hill said.

The driver of the pickup was not injured.

Hill said the accident will be investigated by the county state's attorney's office.

The crash closed the northbound lane of I-795 from Interstate 695 for three hours, Hill said.
