New positions

McCormick names George vice president for sales

McCormick & Co. named Arthur C. George vice president, sales in its food service group's special markets unit. He manages the group's membership warehouse club and supermarket food service business. A graduate of the University of North Carolina, he has been with the Sparks-based spice and flavorings company since 1978. The Towson resident is active with The Chimes and is a member of the board of trustees of the Gilman School.

Hogg names Janka senior project manager

Hogg Construction hired David B. Janka as senior project manager for the Towson-based regional commercial construction firm. He supervises project design development, budgeting and scheduling. Formerly with Storage USA, the Virginia Polytechnic Institute graduate is a resident of Phoenix.

Joyce Kroeller named to Leadership Maryland

Independent College Fund of Maryland announced that its executive director, Joyce A. Kroeller, was named to the Leadership Maryland class of 2000. The Lisbon resident is one of 52 public and private sector executives selected to participate in the intense eight-month program designed to prepare them to recognize and deal with critical social and government issues.


Chuck Fischer joins Gray, Kirk/VanSant

Gray, Kirk/VanSant added Chuck Fischer to the Baltimore-based agency's ad department staff as a senior account executive. A Catonsville resident, he is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park and formerly was with the Kelly-Michner agency in Lancaster, Pa.

Banking and finance

Starliper, Beyer advance at Provident Bank

Provident Bank of Maryland promoted Dennis A. Starliper to group manager and chief financial officer and Lawrence Beyer to managing director and treasurer for the Baltimore financial institution.

Starliper, a Clarksville resident, holds an MBA from Southwestern University and is active in several professional organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Financial Executives Institute.

Beyer joined the bank in 1992 from Maryland National Bank, where he was an investment analyst. An MBA graduate of the University of Rochester, the Catonsville resident is a member of the Washington Association of Money Managers.

Legal and insurance

Donna, Matthew Sturtz, Coulson elected principals

Miles & Stockbridge elected J. Mark Coulson, Donna Preston Sturtz and Mathew S. Sturtz as principals in the Baltimore-based regional law firm. All are in the law firm's Baltimore office.

Coulson, a law graduate of Duke University, and Donna Sturtz, a University of Maryland law graduate, both joined the joined the firm in 1991 and are in the litigation department, specializing in medical malpractice, product liability and civil defense. Matthew Sturtz, who joined the firm in 1990, is in the commercial and business litigation group and is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law.
