Rodney Jones

Northeast-AA, wrestling

Jones capped his rags-to-riches season by winning the Class 4A-3A state heavyweight championship Saturday at Western Maryland College. A back-up until the Anne Arundel County tournament when starter James Taylor was declared ineligible, Jones completed his 19-1 season by decisioning Churchill's Warren Kleiban, 9-4. The Eagles' senior defeated Frederick's Akili Patterson in the semis, 9-8. Jones, at 5-feet-8 and 207 pounds, was giving up at least 65 pounds to both of those opponents.

Mandakova Clark

Milford Mill, girls basketball

The 5-foot-8 senior guard paced the eighth-ranked Millers to their third straight appearance in the state semis. Clark had 31 points, 12 steals, 11 assists and five rebounds in Milford Mill's 92-21 rout of Carver. She had 24 points, eight assists, seven steals and six rebounds in a 93-24 win vs. Kenwood. Then Clark posted 27 points, eight steals, eight rebounds and seven assists in a 76-57 win over Bel Air for the Class 3A North title. Clark, who will play for Rutgers next season, has a 3.3 grade-point average.
