Work on Oakwood Road set to begin this month

March 08, 2000

The county will begin reconstruction work on Oakwood Road in Glen Burnie in mid-March, a project expected to run until the end of May, the Public Works Department announced yesterday.

The project will have two phases: the first from Aquahart Road to Funke Road, and the second from Funke Road to Old Mill Boulevard.

Contractors will mill, patch and repair concrete and road surfaces, adjust manholes and utilities, add a storm drain inlet, upgrade storm drain inlets, install traffic sensors and restripe the roadway.

"The reconstruction will extend the life of the road, make the road more structurally sound, and provide a smoother driving experience," the department's announcement said.

Contractor for the project is Reliable Contracting Co. Inc. of Millersville. The cost for both phases is $1,060,000. Normal work hours will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, with occasional Saturday work.

Information: Sam McKinney, Reliable Contracting, 410-987-0313, or county inspector Wayne Menchey, 410-222-4349.
