Howard County planners to hold community forums

The Howard County Planning Board will hold a series of community forums this month to discuss the county's General Plan.

The plan defines how the county will respond to an expected slowdown in the pace of growth over the next 20 years, reflecting a diminishing supply of undeveloped land. New targets for housing and employment, and goals for preserving agricultural and environmental resources will be set. Participants also will discuss strategies to maintain the vitality of older communities.

Forums will be held tomorrow in the Long Reach High School auditorium, 6101 Old Dobbin Lane, Columbia; Monday in the Hammond High School auditorium, 8800 Guilford Road, Columbia; and March 15 in the Elkridge Fire Station banquet hall, 6275 Old Washington Blvd., Elkridge.

A summary of suggestions for the General Plan will be available on the county's Web site, www.co.ho.md.us, at county library branches and in the Department of Planning and Zoning, 3430 Courthouse Drive, Ellicott City.

Information: 410-313-2022.
