Committee to present school boundary proposals

The Long Range Facility Planning Committee of the Board of Education will present final recommendations for boundary adjustments affecting several schools at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Westminster High School.

The adjustments are necessary in anticipation of the opening of Shiloh Middle School this year, Century High School in 2001 and the new Westminster area high school in 2002.

Multicultural conference scheduled for March 13

The fourth annual Multicultural Leadership Conference for high school students will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 13 at Western Maryland College.

The second conference for middle school pupils will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 15, also at WMC.

About 300 children are expected to attend each conference, picked from schools around the county. The conferences are sponsored by Carroll Citizens for Racial Equality and Carroll County Public Schools.

High school students will learn and share ideas for advancing racial equality and multicultural relationships. Topics include freedom of dress and expression, cultural and racial issues in business, fair treatment of minorities by law enforcers, multicultural issues in the county and individual school planning.

The middle school session will include a program by Foolproof, small group discussions, a cultural event and school group meetings.

Town meeting to discuss public school issues

Board of Education President Scott Stone and Superintendent William Hyde will be hosts for a town meeting from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 14 at Westminster Elementary School, 811 Uniontown Road.

Meetings are designed to create an open dialogue among the schools, parents and community.

The public is welcome to ask questions or raise concerns regarding education issues.
