Reese's big second half lifts UMES past Howard

Morgan women top Del. St. behind 18 from Cornish

Demetric Reese scored 18 of his game-high 22 points in the second half, including five of his team's last seven points, to lead UMES past Howard, 69-64, in men's college basketball Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action last night in Washington.

The Bison (1-25, 1-16) rallied from an eight-point deficit to tie the game at 62 with 3: 04 left.

Reese then took over down the stretch, scoring a basket and three free throws as the Hawks (11-6, 8-10) outscored Howard 7-2.

Kevin Wallace added 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Hawks, who had 19 free throw attempts in the second half while Howard failed to get to the line.

Freshman guard Jonathan Stokes led the Bison with 18 points.

Howard dropped its 16th straight and 36th in the last 37 games.


Morgan State 86, Delaware State 53: Sherie Cornish led four double-digit scorers with 18 points to power the Bears (16-11, 12-6) past the Hornets (11-16, 8-10) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game.

Morgan State shot 57.6 percent from the field in the second half to Delaware State's 25 percent.

Shakira Smith (17), Angela Creek (15) and Monique Liddell (14) were Morgan State's other top scorers.

Monique Washington led the Hornets with 12 points.
