Bryan Hamper

South Carroll, wrestling

The junior won his second consecutive Class 4A-3A North regional title Saturday at Dundalk by scoring two technical falls and a pin. In the 140-pound championship bout, Hamper pinned state runner-up and previously unbeaten Jason Laubach (29-1) of Kenwood in 3: 46, improving his record to 28-1, including 20 pins. The honor roll student's 88 career victories are fourth best in South Carroll history, and his 57 career pins are third best.

Danielle Stoddart

Oakland Mills, indoor track

The senior sprinter captured three gold medals at the state Class 2A-1A meet last Wednesday. Despite finishing third in the 300, Stoddart won the 500 in a state Class 1A record 1 minute, 20.8 seconds, finished first in the 800 with a 2: 26.2, and anchored the winning 3,200 relay team. Her performance was a big reason why the Scorpions won their second state title in three seasons. Stoddart was an All-Howard County runner in cross country last fall and outdoor track last spring.
