Canisius gives Loyola men the slip, 75-69

Greyhound women finish with loss to St. Peter's

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Darren Fenn scored 21 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, and Canisius hit three key free throws with time running out to beat Loyola, 75-69, in their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season finale last night.

Canisius (9-19, 8-10) notched its largest lead, 66-55, with 3: 10 remaining, but the Greyhounds cut the deficit to 69-65 with 45 seconds left. Dorian McClure made one free throw with 37 seconds left and Fenn hit two more with 24.2 left to clinch the game.

Canisius took control early on and never trailed after scoring seven straight points to take a 15-10 lead with 13: 05 left in the first half.

Blanchard Hurd led Loyola (7-20, 4-14) with 13 points.

Women

St. Peter's 68, Loyola 61: Senior center Mercy Aghedo scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Peahens (20-7, 14-4) over the visiting Greyhounds (11-16, 8-10) to finish the MAAC regular season.

The Greyhounds finished in a three-way tie with Siena and Manhattan and will be the No. 6 seed when the MAAC tournament begins Friday in Albany, N.Y. Loyola will play No. 3 seed Niagara in a quarterfinal game at 2: 30 p.m.

Erica Rath led Loyola with 17 points.
